I Won Hope

Ben Yew | Ben Yew Stories

Perth, Western Australia – 12.15 AM

I woke up, missed the first part and I nearly went back to sleep.

But since I was awake, I stayed on, and watched on.

It was streaming live, An international photographers competition by a world-renowned photography brand.

When I logged in, I thought It was already towards the end.

I entered this competition, with zero expectation to win. Just to be judged and improve from feedbacks. Haven’t won anything in years.

Judges critique, one after another.

On technicalities and creativity, on how it could be improved.

I probably missed seeing my work being critiqued. Maybe it was in the beginning or maybe I didn’t make it to the top 10.

Then, it happened…

BOOM!

My image appeared last, thankfully, I didn’t miss it.

Waiting for critique. Didn’t happen.

First judge to another other,

Is this the winner?

NO? was asked… but YES was the actual answer.

Couldn’t believe my eyes, my ears and just what they shared. They said, It was perfect, no ways to improve it.

I was shaking a little. Not because I just won a prize.

I WON HOPE!

After hitting the reset button in life and career, with an uncertain and challenging start. I knew I had to push my boundaries more.

But the stars were aligned!

Grateful. Thankful.

And now…Hopeful.

I GOT THIS!, Soldier on!

To my new beginning, my new venture and more inspiring stories!

KEEP PUSHING BOUNDARIES.

Massive thanks to Pye & Chris and the Profoto team

Madeline Jewellery for going with my vision

Joseph, the amazing model and tailor from Zenith Tailor for the suit.
