Look After Yourself

JOANNE HILL | Human Resource, Bunbury

Colour // Nurturing Blue

Joanne Hill, a Noongar woman, stands proudly adorned with her Booka, a Kangaroo skin cloak, seamlessly blending her ancestral heritage with the corporate attire she wears.

Guided by values and an unwavering passion, she has ventured into diverse sectors, including community services, healthcare, and sports.

For Joanne, it’s not about the nature of the work or the career path; it’s about the people she encounters. The faces she meets and the stories she hears shape her worldview.

Transitioning into a managerial role within the construction industry, Joanne shouldered a multitude of responsibilities. Yet, her ambition did not stop there; She embarked on an exciting new venture aimed at facilitating employment opportunities for individuals, particularly Aboriginal individuals participating in construction projects.

She focusses on pushing boundaries as she radiates waves of influence that extend far beyond the confines of her work.

“My hope is not only to impart knowledge but to ignite the belief in their own potential for greatness,” she says.

Looking ahead, Joanne envisions travelling to smaller communities, using her skills to empower others. Her story resonates with the ethos of giving back, deeply rooted in her humble beginnings.

Growing up in a lower socioeconomic area, she understood the power of kindness and the drive to surpass expectations. Now, as a mother of three, she carries forward a legacy of family culture, strength, and community involvement.

Joanne’s life has been a journey of love, loss, and sharing wisdom with her children. Each relationship has left her with invaluable lessons that she now imparts to others. The words and wisdom of her loved ones live on through the people she assists, creating roots of their own.

Joanne firmly believes that prioritising one’s well-being is a prerequisite for making a meaningful contribution to others. With a heart that beats for the betterment of others, she emphasises the importance of self-care.

“If you don’t look after yourself, you’re not useful to anyone.”
